How did it get to be three in the morning?!
I braved opening night at the local theater to see that bonafide bonanza of vampire goodness, Twilight (and lived to tell the tale)!
Non-spoilery comments about Twilight, spoken as a non-fan (but interested party):
- They did good with picking translucent English actor RPatz as the vampire protagonist. Unlike his pancaked-within-an-inch-of-their-lives brethren, I think he is actually that pale.
- I was surrounded by 12-year-old girls and their mothers; kudos to the ten or so men that were in the theater with us. That was a whole lot of estrogen to deal with. The squealing when the vampires came on screen was unbelievable.
- I like the story idea very much (what's not to love - dark Byronic hero, chaste knightly romance (chaste by my apparently whore-tacular standards), and beautiful immortal tragedy) so I will def pick up the books.
- One of the biggest movies of the year and they couldn't inflate the special effects budget a bit?
- Am I going to have to read the books to understand the appeal of Bella? 'Cause I wasn't really feeling it in the movie...
And finally, a note on the crowd itself. Now, I know it was a young group, but nothing irritates me more than inappropriate laughter. Particularly at a most serious and potentially tragic moment, the laughter that filled the auditorium disgusted me. I don't mean to go all "you have to take this movie super seriously OR ELSE," but c'mon. Put yourself in someone else's place and learn some god-damned empathy. I don't know - most people don't really understand why this is a big deal, but I feel it merits mention because I find it weird and off-putting.

Glad to hear you liked it, though! I've read all four books, and I really hope it does well enough to go into the second one, cause it has my favourite ending of all four.
