Mmm, phlegm

Hello, hello. I am almost out of sick land, but still saddled with a horrible cough and burning eyes. My body is worn out, yet my mind is racing, so you can imagine how happy I am about that.

So, let's list things!

1. I really, really want to buy the soundtrack for Across the Universe and am trying to justify its purchase since I am already over budget for October. I just love the Beatles and I love it when I hear good covers of their music (you would think that would be the opposite case for a fan, but whatevs I'm weird).

2. Speaking of being broke, OMG! Lupin III hanken! Why now, Mandarake?! It's like they are torturing me on purpose! I don't even particularly care for the image, but how many times am I going to come into contact with a Lupin III hanken? Also, the Big Web auction is full of evil goo and I must stay away. *sniffles*

3. In other news, there are lots of movies I want to see, almost none of which got particularly fantastic reviews: Across the Universe, The Game Plan (stop laughing), Elizabeth: The Golden Age, The Kingdom, and Into the Wild.

4. And, finally, in news befitting my financial status: Netflix (love you, love you, love you) offers so many hours of movies that I can watch instantly on my computer as part of my plan. So, I started browsing and although some of the selections are unimpressive, the documentary list is mouth-watering. I have already watched The Great Happiness Space, about host clubs in Osaka (very interesting and sad and at the same time kind of hard and fake - I still totally want to go to one and have a champagne call, though). Am planning on some trashy Madonna: Truth or Dare later. Perhaps tomorrow, I will tackle the delectable four-hour In Search of Shakespeare so that I can regain a brain cell or two. Whee!!!

I thought Across the Universe was very sweet and whimsical. I usually abhor whimsy. Go see it if it comes near you.

And oooh, just watched the preview for The Great Happiness Space Added that to the top of my queue. If I can get my conversational Japanese to, well, actually be conversational, I'd love to go to a host club....

Oh trust me it's almost more fun to not speak great Japanese at a host club! My friend Jen speaks little to none (I know you have much more than her) and she has a riot at the host clubs. I think they put forth a lot more entertainment effort. I can recommend a couple in Osaka ;) (um...mostly from my friends heh Although I think you would enjoy club Diablo too)

okay shutting up now ^__^

Yes! When I first saw the previews, I thought 'Oooh - heavy, tragic movie set to Beatles music. Pass!'

But everyone is saying something different and now I can't wait! It's actually here in the theaters; the one that hasn't shown up is Into the Wild. ?

Hee - I don't think my Japanese will ever be anywhere near conversational. I'll just take an interpreter or something. *grin*

Having read Into the Wild, I'm passing on seeing it. I didn't sympathize with the main character at the time, doubt I would now....

It's funny - I don't particularly sympathize with him, either. But I understand that feeling of being empty and the need to fill it with something, particularly travels and new experiences (could be all the moving I did as a kid).

I would never be a self-centered, selfish, spoiled brat that disappeared on my family, but the writer's article (hee - have not even read the book!) tripped some sort of familiar feeling out of me. Low grade depression? LOL...

Oh, I get the feeling of emptiness and desire to fill the void. I've spent most of my adult life running away from things and looking for the next new thing. It was his steadfast refusal to connect with his family that got me. Personally, I was all for giving him a stiff kick in the ass for 99% of the book. ^_^

[identity profile] joseishijin.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! Yeah, he just strikes me as a kid who was never denied anything, so when he became an "adult," he took it into his head to live out some of his favorite books and no one could stop him.

It's interesting to me, simply because I don't really know anyone who could do that - completely turn away from their family. It's a foreign concept. Mainly because my family and I are joined at the hip. Healthy!

The only thing is I don't know if the movie will ever come here.

I'm glad you are feeling a little better! I'm so sorry you and JP caught the killer illnesses o(-_-;)p

Hey no shame in wanting to see the Game Plan! The Rock is weirdly charming.

Thank you! It was a virus of monumental proportions, if it took me down, LOL...

Yes! Thank you! I love The Rock, even though I abhor wrestling. I actually like Hulk Hogan too. Huh.

What really pushed me into fannish territory with The Rock was his commentary on The Scorpion King. Good stuff, that. ^_____^

Man. I still kick myself for missing that Lupin III hanken that was on Yahoo!Japan months ago. CELS HAVE BAD TIMING.

[identity profile] joseishijin.livejournal.com 2007-10-13 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
*cries*

No hanken for us.

But someday....yes, someday.

Stoopid money. Stoopid timing.
