Ugh. Technology and all its frailties came to smack us in the ass this week. Nothing is going right at work and none of our obviously overpaid programmers and techs know what to do (no offense to all my friends who are in the IT field, etc...ya'll are lovely).

But enough of that. I have had a heaviness dragging at my heart all week. It overshadows the pettiness of work and even touches on the excited conversations JP and I share about our future life together here in San Antonio.

Everyday I walk out into clear blue skies, temperate wind, and sunshine that illuminates the wildflowers in empty lots. And I think how unfair it is that I am whining about work and worrying about the loss of a cel when the Iraqi people have to worry about missiles, war, and just surviving and rebuilding their lives. If they do not hate those that destroy their homes, if they do not teach their children to hate, then they are bigger persons than I am. Because I know if someone dropped a bomb on my house or even in my city, no matter what the reason, I would hate.

Yet, I am not against the war. I know it sounds like a contradiction, but I believe we are doing what we must to protect what is vital.

Yes, Americans can be loud and overbearing. We push other countries around. But I can't only be an American when they are doing things that I like. I am not always proud of being from this country, but it doesn't change who I am or where I come from. I like the lifestyle I am afforded. We have the wealth and freedom and capabilities that we do because the U.S. has been pushy and aggressive and not-very-nice. And you will find a few good things about our country and our government (but you have to look really close). *grin*

I guess George Orwell said it best when he said, "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

I dunno. Maybe being a military brat skews my attitude. Feel free to dissent and argue...that's the American way. LOL!

Apologies to all who expected this entry to be:

1. a rant about work (well, it was...sorta)
2. well-organized and semi-coherent
3. A batch of new quizzes (next time)

Sleepies!
