I am pretty sure I am sick, but can't really pinpoint what's wrong. Low grade fever, upset tummy, constant headache. Oh, yes and my EFFING period. Ugh. I have been forcing myself to go to work but this weekend I am going to SLEEP like no one's business!

Aw, I hadn't seen this before...reminds me of JP. The video is a bunch of 80s cartoons set to Bonnie Tyler's Holding Out For A Hero (best song off the Footloose soundtrack TBH). Gives me the warm fuzzies!

melcreada: (three amigos plethora of pinatas)

I saw the new Key & Peele show on Comedy Central and while it didn't really grab me, it was totally worth watching for this sketch of Obama and his "anger translator":

And also, since I am letting my left flag fly, JP pointed this out to me on Facebook. Like I need another reason to love George Clooney:

Happy Mother's Day to all the mommies on my flist! Hope you have a great one!

I met up with Nay-nay on Friday night and we enjoyed watermelon martinis at Olive Garden (YUM) and then went shopping for clothes I didn't need (bought a fabulous dress, though).

Yesterday, JP and I went to see Thor and, I must say, it was pretty good! Chris Hemsworth is just gorgeous and even though I am pre-disposed to love anything Kenneth Branagh does anyway, he did a great job moving the story forward and preventing it from looking or sounding ridiculous (which is no easy task when you are talking about THOR). My favorite bits included the main character coming to Earth because I love 'fish out of water' scenarios. Oh, yes - Stellan Skarsgard and Kat Dennings are fantastic in their small roles. Highly recommended!

And now I leave you with this...JP found it and thought of me. A skinny, English steampunk rapper. Does my boyfriend know me or does my boyfriend know me??

melcreada: (hp after all this time? always)

Mmm, tasty three-day weekend! Plans include the Muppet Movie sing-a-long today and a whole lot of nothing later. Maybe I will finally haul some of this crap to goodwill. Who knows?!

I have been spazzing out over the Deathly Hallows II trailer - as many of you know, I have a huge squishy soft spot for Alan Rickman and that whole end part about Snape just gets me every time I read it...so combine the two and I just don't know if I will be able to stand it. ♥ ♥ ♥

Plus, the whole ending of the saga is just going to wreck me. I may have to go into seclusion.

Friday morning I did not wake up to see the wedding (because I love sleep more than anything in the world), but I did catch the highlights that night on BBC America. For me, it's all about the ceremony and the history of everything. The weight and beauty of all that tradition. My favorite parts were random, like the trumpets announcing the Queen's arrival into Westminster, the aerial shots inside the cathedral, and the WWII bombers flying over the palace. I also thought the trees inside were a romantic, fairytale addition.

Most people around here had no patience for all the hoopla of the event and I can understand that. They will never be our sovereigns or even people we will have to be worried about, from a foreign policy/political standpoint. But I just love the idea of a prince finding and marrying his princess in a traditional and beautiful way.

*waves tiny British flag*

Also, LULZ:

Next time, I will talk about eating meat until you think you might die, why JP is the sweetest boyfriend ever, and saluting the end of National Poetry Month. I know, it's gripping. Try to contain yourselves...

Aw, yeah!

I took Monday and Tuesday off so JP and I can run away to Padre Island for a couple of days. :) It's so easy to get time off now that I am no longer a lynch pin!

Yesterday, I bought a necklace made of strands of pink and white freshwater pearls for $12.50 at Target. I love Target. ♥

MOAR poems? The more I listen to this, the more I like it - Anis Mojgani's Shake the Dust

Spent several hours in the blazing sun and heat at the Taste of New Orleans today. I feel like I am on fire. Yucky.

Not a poem, but awe-inspiring and mind-boggling:

They showed this at JP's astronomy club meeting.
melcreada: (music is my life)

The gods did not want me to watch the Grammys. Less than an hour in and Nay-nay called. She just had surgery on Friday and was sitting at home all bummed out and in pain, so since I am not a heartless monster, I muted the show and gave her my mostly undivided attention. We talked for almost 2 hours, so now I am surfing the interwebs to try and find out what I missed.

I have no idea why I am so interested in the Grammys this year, other than I am looking for new artists/music to buy with my iTunes gift cards from Christmas. Just earlier today, I purchased The Road of a Gypsy and sent it to the Kid as a nostalgic postcard reminding him of one our favorite movies in the entire universe, Iron Eagle. Yeah, you read that right. That movie is badass.

In searching for Grammy performances, I stumbled on Aretha Franklin's Nessum Dorma from 1998, where apparently she was a last minute replacement for Pavarotti. Pardon my language, but that lady has some big balls. Wow. You go, Aretha!

I loved Muse's performance and although I am not a Miranda Lambert fan, I really like that song. Eminem and Dre sounded great. Who else should I look up?

I am nervous about work! Announcements, offers, new things, scary things in the offing. Sometimes I feel like such a little girl.
melcreada: (hp after all this time? always)

I saw this and burst into tears (although that may have something to do with PMS, hormones, or similar). But if you are a Harry Potter fan, I dare you not to get a little choked up at this retrospective and with the knowledge of what's coming...

I have no idea if this is old hat, but it's the first time I have seen it...
melcreada: (impudent strumpet)

Okay, I am going to bed in a slightly better mood, thanks to this (props to JP for showing it to me):

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife...who can kick serious ass!

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] annearchy  because it's too good not to share...

melcreada: (impudent strumpet)

I need to start going to bed earlier...for serious.

Okay, let's get this meme on the road!

Day 23 → A YouTube video (Holy Hell, seven more days to go!)

Okay, one cannot just go to YouTube and pick a video and be done. One must peruse the sight, weigh the pros and cons, etc.

So, somehow I got to thinking about dancing and So You Think You Can Dance and I started looking for my favorite routines. And I realized that many of the pieces I connected to were done by Mia Michaels.

Now, I have this love/hate thing going on with a lot of contemporary choreography. I love the storytelling and the emotion, but so much of it just looks...sloppy. However, Mia's routines always look so sharp. They can be wrenching or funny or touchingly quirky. She is ruthless in demanding not only a certain level of honesty in her dancers, but a high level of technical ability and athleticism because that's what is in every routine. So, in conclusion: girl crush on Mia Michaels and her mad skills as a choreographer.
melcreada: (shakespeare sinfest comic)
I'm kind of sad today, but bound and determined not to stay that way...

Ah, meme - we meet again!

Day 06 → Whatever tickles your fancy

South Park mocking Hamlet - what's not to love? My favorite scene ever, buddy!
melcreada: (ouran twincest)

Why am I awake you ask?

Because I have become addicted to [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets . Oh, the lulz! And I don't even know a bunch of the fandoms on there! It's crack, I tell ya!

Also, I still have not seen all of Gurren Lagann, but this AMV is fantastic! I get a lump in my throat watching it...

Alas, I better go to bed: tomorrow (er, today) is Filipino food at the 'rents house to celebrate Mother's Day. Mmmm, lumpia and pancit bihon!

Happy Mother's Day to all the mommies on the flist! Have a great day...

1. JP and I are doing a Babylon 5 marathon this long holiday weekend. We've knocked season 1 out tha' way and are starting on season 2. Woo!

2. We saw Hancock today and it was pretty good. A couple of plot points I didn't care for and something about the ending really bugged me, but it was good entertainment.

3. So You Think You Can Dance wins at life! I have watched this routine a half dozen times and it makes me cry every time. Just great choreography and dancing and use of props and music and geez! *sniffle*

4. I have also watched the first few episodes of Emma: A Victorian Romance and am enjoying it muchly! I have a thing for Victorian literature and stories within that time frame in general. Hurray!
