All the small things
Dec. 17th, 2005 01:10 pmTaking a break from cruise-flavored entries to say that I poke fun at JP a lot (giving not nearly as good as I get, I assure you), but he is a stand-up guy. A few nights ago, my sister called, frantic. Apparently on Sunday night, two dogs jumped the fence into my parents yard and tried to attack their outside cat. My dad ran out there to chase the dogs away, but by the time he had removed them from the yard, the cat was nowhere to be seen.
For two days, my sister and dad searched and searched until Wednesday night, my sister found her up a tree. The tree had no low branches and the cat was about 25 feet off the ground, on a branch that was hanging over the chain link fence. My sister called JP because she didn't know what to do. Long story short: JP went to the house to help.
Animals adore him and as soon as he spoke to the kitty in the tree, she started meowing for the first time since my sister had spotted her. She still wouldn't come down, so JP threw a blanket over the fence and rigged a clothes basket and twine into a makeshift elevator (thank you for the idea, internets). He and my sister managed to fling the rope over and pull the basket level with the cat. The cat, amazingly, started to climb in. But the basket tilted and she had to grab on, crazily, half in and half out of the hamper while my sister lowered it furiously to the ground. The kitty jumped early, in her fear, and hit the fence (thank God for the blanket).
I think she hurt herself, but at least she is now back on the ground. Must call my sister to see if she is going to take the kitty to the vet. My whole point with the story, other than to gush about JP? You know a man loves you when he runs off, at your sister's request, to rescue your parent's cat who's stuck up a tree. I am lucky to have him in my life. So is kitty. *^_^*
