i know exactly what you mean about Lady in the Water. The trailers were for a different movie altogether, in my opinion.
I think this film is a "love it or hate it" type of movie. I fall into the category of "love it" because I found it very whimsical and funny and charming. I can also forgive plot holes, self-indulgence and the few pointless scenes.
You have to give him credit for making fun of himself AND critics though.
