Me, me, me

Okay! turns out my baked goods for the San Antonio Aids Foundation charity event are due tomorrow, not Thursday! So pies are baked and cooling as is my naked cake (only one after all, turns out I am not Betty Crocker on steroids). Will wrap everything up, including naked cake layers, and finish frosting/decorating tomorrow when I get home. JP thinks I'm crazy for spending all this time and money, but to me it's way more fun than just donating money (although they'd probably appreciate that more, LOL).

ANYWAY, meme time! I hope I remember how to do them...

30 Days of Blogging meme

1. Introduction and recent photo

So, even though all I ever do is talk about myself (me, me, me), I guess I can give a quick rundown. My name is Melissa (but I answer to Missy, Melly, and Mel). I'm 40 (ugh), work as an Operations Analyst for a huge insurance company, and live with my longtime boyfriend JP and a whole parcel of cats. He is actually the crazy cat lady, not me. I started keeping an online journal back in 2001 (holy mairde it's been 12 years), mainly because some of my fellow anime cel collecting peeps were on Live Journal so I tagged along.

I have a big, wonderful family that drives me crazy. If it were not for them, I would not still be here in South Texas, dying from the relentless oven of a climate and the never-ending stupidity of Texas lawmakers in general. My dream is to retire early and move somewhere north, where there are real seasons. I hear they are nice.

I live traveling, reading, baking, writing, and watching anime and historical dramas (combine the two and I am your slave). I love Shakespeare, Jane Austen, poetry, maps, watching sci-fi with JP, and all-you-can-eat meat at Brazilian steakhouses (the salads are good, too). Although I have been kicking ass and taking names at work, the thing I am most proud of is that over the last 5 months, I have lost over 40 pounds. It hasn't been easy, but it feels great. I can finally shop in the regular clothes section again, which is nice. I have a new-found interest in athletic gear and exercising (although running bites and you can quote me on that).

In honor of Halloween, here is a recent photo of me at Target. JP and I were trying on the foam wigs and dying of laughter. I kinda liked this one, though...who knew I could rock some blond hair?

On Thursday night, JP and I went to see Shakespeare in the Park. They were doing Othello, which made me a little nervous because the troupe normally performs children's theater and comedy is more in their wheelhouse. However, the two actors who played the main parts, Othello and Iago, were really wonderful and made the play one of the better ones we've seen so far. However, I cannot with audiences anymore. People were laughing during some of the most tragic scenes. Bitch, a man has been mentally undone and is strangling his wife. Not hilarious. I just don't know.

Disappointed in you, Shakespeare audience.

Anyway, when I got up for work on Friday, I felt like HELL. Like I was hungover. Only I hadn't been drinking. Shakespeare hangover, LOL. Thankfully, I only worked half a day and went home before...

Michelle's wedding! My co-worker, with whom I've experienced many ups and downs over the past 10 years, finally married her boyfriend yesterday at the lovely Spanish Governor's Palace. I offered to help her, so I got to the venue a couple of hours early to direct the caterer, the bar staff, and the band. I decorated all the tables and set up the side courtyard where they were getting married with candles and rose petals. I was drenched in sweat by the time all the guests arrived, but everything looked beautiful and went off without a hitch. Yay for our side! I really liked that she had music the whole time - a guitarist while people arrived, mariachis during dinner, a jazz band for the rest of dinner/dessert/mingling, and then a DJ for the last hour and a half for dancing. I helped clean up afterwards and then went home to take a 30 minute shower because I felt (and smelled) so gross.

This morning, I am completely stiff from all the running around/dancing I did.

Wedding hangover!
melcreada: (adults suck!)

I was thinking of joining tumblr and Pottermore (early!) but upon arriving at both sites I (wait for it)...COULD NOT UNDERSTAND THE DIRECTIONS.

The internet had to explain it to me, both times.

I swear I am not a moron.

Exhibit A: when I saw "URL" on the tumblr site, I thought I had to enter a separate, personally-owned URL and I was all, "Motherfucker, that's why I'm coming here!" A simple "enter what you would like your tumblr URL to look like" would have been nice. A FAQ that had this statement would also be acceptable.

Exhibit B: I solved the effin' clue on Pottermore, but every time I tried to make the jump to the secret site (LOL that I am actually saying this), I kept getting some retarded parseltongue translator. Some nice person took pity on me and sent me the link. Yay, I joined Pottermore!

I am going to lie down now because the internet is too hard for me...

BORING...

Oh, shit. I have eleventy billion things to do this week! Mostly it involves birthdays that are too close together and coloring my hair and taxes, but STILL.

Also, I am depressed. Probably hormones or similar, but all I want to do is sleep. Crying is optional, but doesn't cost extra. In addition, I have been on my period ALL YEAR LONG (feels like, anyway, and not too far off from the truth). Someone told me this is a sign of pre-menopausal women. MENOPAUSE. Just what I was missing from my life.

Work is still ridiculous. I am bearing it with silent dignity. More or less.

Watched most of To Catch A Thief earlier. The fireworks scene used to be my favorite when I was younger, but now it's just damn funny. Still, Cary Grant is my perfect man. ♥ ♥ ♥

I am getting forgetful in my old age. I don't like it.

Also, I am awake and I should be asleep.

Aaannnnd: meme!

Day 22 → A website

I found Not Martha by accident, but I fell in love with it and this past Christmas, I even made some of the artsy-crafty stuff as gifties, like the magnets:

and also the wine charms:

That's right...I am a crafty bitch.

So we are returned from the wilds of Dallas. Thankfully, we had no problems or big issues with anything and the trip was as smooth as possible, given we were lugging five suitcases full of cels and panel equipment.

So how was Animefest? )

Overall, a good trip. However, the old folk will have to think carefully about attending future cons. LOL...

And of course, work has been Hell ever since I've been back. In the past two days, I've been yelled at, told I am not doing my job, and accused of coming in late (I didn't but I think she was just pissed in general). So, joy! I can't even care a little bit. When someone you don't respect is getting on your case, it's very hard to take it seriously.
