Finally a chance to update! Cut for excessive rambling and nonsensical warbling.

I arrived in Phoenix on Tuesday, white-knuckled and excessively relieved to be on the ground. I drove down to Yuma, let myself into the Kid's apartment, and promptly passed out. When he got home, we went and had dinner at a dingy little Mexican restaurant. Mmmm...pitchers of Dos Equis Amber.

The next morning I actually had a meeting in Phoenix, so I drove back up and spent a few hours with some (supposedly) important people doing (supposedly) important things, like exchanging business cards and touring their facilities while making small talk. *yawn* Killer luncheon, though. Yay, free food!

Returned to Yuma and spent the next day driving around the desert with the Kid, while he showed me all the "hot spots" of illegal activity and all his favorite sand dunes. ^_^ We went shopping at the only Walmart in town and just lazed about, enjoying his one day off.

That evening, we went out with his friends to a very swanky restaurant and enjoyed ting martinis (sake with a splash of gin) and all kinds of delicious, fancy food. I know - only one Walmart in town, yet they have a restaurant with five-star cuisine. *shrugs* But we sat outside, getting misted by an apparatus similar to the misting tents at concerts, and we became quite drunk merry as everything got funnier and funnier with each round. Afterwards, we headed to the local bar to play pool and swill beer like the total low class fools that we are.

By some mysterious power of the universe, I woke up with NO hangover the next day. I took off to Anaheim (later than I had planned, but oh well) to catch some AX goodness. Unfortunately, my stupid rental car broke down in San Diego and I was delayed while Enterprise fixed it and tried to placate one very bitchy disgruntled customer. Oi! I was mad.

When I FINALLY got to the Mariott (at 10:30 pm) I found the lovely girls, Kinyan, [livejournal.com profile] wonderelf, and [livejournal.com profile] ixiepixie, waiting for me to go to the informal cel gathering. We headed out and I had fun meeting people and seeing familiar faces. [livejournal.com profile] raisai was too cute, cooing over her new acquisition. ^_^

Spent most of Saturday in the Dealer's Room and Artist Alley, poring over cel books and all the marvelous goodies. I did make it to the Yoko Ishida concert and I thought that was pretty good. I really enjoyed her music. The Para Para boys were just the icing on the cake. LOL...

Dinner with the girls and a few rounds of One Piece Uno preceded the more formal cel gathering on Saturday night. Got to meet some more people who were all super nice and had hella great cels. Gimme, gimme! Afterwards, some of us adjourned to the lounge in the Mariott to gab the night away on all manner of topics.

On Sunday, I took one last turn in the Dealer's Room before getting in the massive line for Tomokazu Seki's panel. Once again, thanks to One Piece Uno and the girls, time passed quickly. Okay, okay - I'll leave the fangirl details to Arwen, but Seki was so cute! The orange/blond hair kinda worked. And the crowd went crazy over everything he said! Much love for his Chichiri voice and for his comments about Kyo. <3

After the panel, I bid the girls farewell and drove back to Yuma. In the daylight, with a working car, the drive down I-5 is MUCH more enjoyable. The cool breezes, random flowering bushes, and constant peeks of the ocean made me sad to turn away from the coast as I headed back through the mountains and into the desert.

Spent most of the remaining time watching movies and drinking rum and coke with the Kid. Yay! Watched the brutal-but-compelling Kingpin, the seriously depressing Cold Mountain, and the deep, lushly-colored Hero (yay Jet Li and whoever did the cinemetography...whoa). We talked and laughed and tried to stay awake as long as possible so that we would not lose a moment or a laugh.

And before i knew it, I was heading home. *sniffle* Ironically, I did not buy any cels at AX...just some douga and genga. I just couldn't afford the stuff I really wanted. Le sigh. But I am very glad I went. I had a fantastic time.

Only 3 days back at work and I am ready for another vacation! I have spent most of my time this week dealing with employees, handling issues that were (of course) neglected in my absence. But. If I have to listen to one more whinging, 30-minute rant about new schedules/improper use of cell phones/negative attitudes, I will personally chuck that person out the window! Fie on them I say! Fie! I mean, yes, that's what I'm there for, but lemme breathe! 182 emails waiting in my inbox, ya'll. I'm just SAYIN'...

And now I'm out because I was supposed to be asleep hours ago...
