No idea why I woke up at 9:30 this morning when I went to bed at 4:30. Ugh.
The Kid and I went to the Pearl Jam concert in San Diego last night. It was seven shades of awesome. Damn, Eddie Veder looks great! Waltzing out on stage with a bottle of wine, climbing one of those circus ladders during Last Kiss, and not forgetting the fans in the sucky seats (rear view), he was simply fantastic. And after all these years, still a great voice and a commanding presence on stage.
They performed well over two hours which really made me feel like they were giving the fans their money's worth. I will forgive them for not singing my two favorite songs, Black and Given to Fly because they rocked so hard. The Kid was in Heaven - Pearl Jam is his favorite band. Maybe the next time around I will get him awesome seats as a present.
Driving back to Yuma from San Diego, it was pitch black and actually pretty chilly once we hit the mountains. All I kept thinking about was how I used to go stir crazy in that lonely apartment in Alpine since the Dreaded Ex worked nights and Alpine pretty much shut down at sunset. I would jump in my car and drive: west toward the beaches and Old Town or east past Sunrise Highway and clear up to the Tecate Divide. I kinda miss it in a way. Driving has always been something soothing for me: I guess the whole control thing. Thankfully, the Kid bumped me out of my reverie when he barrelled around the mountain curves at 85 miles per hour. That was SOME excitement, as I usually take these, in the slow lane, around 50.
Anyhoo, last full day with the Kid. In some ways, it feels like I have been here forever, in others, like I have only just arrived. Can't wait to go home, though. JP! Kitties!
See ya'll on the flip side...
