melcreada: (christmas berries)

Ugh. Work. The good thing about it was that I only had to use 10 hours of PTO for this whole week. Yay!

I also work next Saturday, which sucks, but that means I get TWO full days of differential pay on that pay check. Cha-ching!

Thanks to the awesome gift cards that various family members gave me, I was able to buy a fancy-pants computer chair and digital memory stick at Office Max AND a pink Sony Cybershot digital camera from Amazon for $44!!! Woo! I have been wanting a new camera and I got one for a song. Am very excited!

In other news, I have purchased way too much anime (damn you, Right Stuf). Starting in 2009, I am really going to get control of my spending.

Just as soon as I pre-order Ouran...

LOL!

And now for something, er...completely the same! Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] hamburger :

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
I dunno…got part of my wisdom tooth pulled? Tried lots of different wine (huzzah!). Saw STP, David Cook, The Swell Season, Monte Montgomery, George Michael, and Willie Nelson in concert (not together, although that would have been badass…)

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions and will you make more for next year?
Feh. As usual, my good intentions fell by the wayside. I will definitely make more for the upcoming year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No one in my immediate circle, but [livejournal.com profile] iammine  had her cutie-patootie Greyson!

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes, my grandma and my uncle. *sigh*

5. What countries did you visit?
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico!

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Financial breathing room.

7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched on your memory, and why?
November 4th.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Staying afloat, both financially and emotionally. This year has been a Hell of a sinkhole.

9. What was your biggest failure?
My inability to leave my department. It’s partially my fault as I have not schmoozed or been very tenacious. Also, after losing a little weight, I promptly gained it all back. Suck!

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Minor stuff.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My laptop. It was greatly appreciated when my PC crapped out on me earlier this year.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Most of my friends and family deserve a shoutout but special props go to JP for being patient and cheering me up and being so damn thoughtful that it’s irritating. Also, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] wonderelf  for flying halfway across the country to visit and [livejournal.com profile] ixiepixie  for the badass Totoro hat (I still can’t get over its awesomeness).

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
My boss seems to get worse and worse every year. However, in recent conversations, I swear she has been baiting me and it just goes beyond any passive-aggressive nastiness that she has displayed in the past.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Surviving. Shoes. DVDs. Going out to eat.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
[livejournal.com profile] wonderelf ’s visit! The Kid’s wedding. Seeing the Swell Season.

16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
Don’t laugh. Viva La Vida by Coldplay. Damn them and their catchy tunes!

17. Compared to this time last year, are you: Happier or sadder? Thinner or fatter? Richer or poorer?
A little sadder, fatter, and poorer. 2008 didn’t pull any punches.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I wish I had spent more time writing.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Spending money, LOL!

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
The days leading up to Christmas were with Nay-nay in Austin. Spent the actual holiday with the familia.

21. Did you fall in love in 2008?
In a manner of speaking.

22. How many one-night stands?
Um. No.

23. What was your favourite TV program?
American Idol!

24. Are you angry at anyone now that you weren't angry at this time last year?
Nah, but I think there might be one or two people angry with me this year that were not last year.

25. What were the best books you read?
Who Killed Kit Marlowe? How the Irish Saved Civilization.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
David Cook and Monte Montgomery (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] annearchy )

27. What did you want and get?
Laptop. Digital camera. Booyah!

28. What did you want and not get?
I wanted to go see David Cook and Scott Weiland perform in Vegas for New Years. I know, I know – I’ll shut up about it, already.

29. What was your favourite film of this year?
Speed Racer. I am so not kidding. It has it all – solid plot, fantastic special effects, touching moments, and HELLO! Emile Hirsch, Matthew Fox, and Rain in tight leather pants! Honorary mention goes to Ghost Town, which is a lovely, funny movie.

30. What did you do on your birthday and how old were you?
Yikes. 36. JP took me to the movies and then shopping. That night we went out to eat with the familia and back to my parent’s house for cake and presents.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not getting a speeding ticket. I spent way too much time angsting over it…

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Scarves and shoes.

33. What kept you sane?
JP, my mom, friends.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
David Cook, duh!

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Our economy being in the shitter. That was a big one.

36. Who did you miss?
Sometimes I missed myself more than anyone else.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
Everyone I have met in the David Cook fandom!

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learnt in 2008?
Saving money is probably a good idea.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

My dreams are humble lean as arrows
Streetwise ready and fair
As we bum rush the ages tied to the rails
On high seas not fit to be sailed

- Jakob Dylan, Valley of the Low Sun

Badass in a musically schizophrenic sort of way :)) BTW Monte has opened for Willie several times, and his mom used to be the postmistress or something like that in Luckenbach, TX.

LOL - I am envisioning a 30-minute version of Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground.

Actually, it has been a dream of mine for some time to somehow convince DC to cover a couple of songs from the Swell Season. ^_~

Aw - I'd love to see Willie and Monte perform! I think Paula Nelson opened for Willie at the concert I went to (not sure, I was getting my parents situated, fetching them beers, etc. at the time).

OMG The Swell Season - you love Glen and Marqueta too? Falling Slowly is one of my favorite songs of recent years.

I loooove them!!!

Glen Hansard is my lyrical soulmate...

We even got to meet him and he was rude to JP! Heh, actually I don't know if he was being snide or if it was just an incorrect interpretation, but yeah. It was pretty cool, anyway!
