Sunday as a day of rest is SO over. I'm just sayin'.
We went to see Lady in the Water (let's hear it again for AMC and their $4 movies). I LOVED it. Frankly, I do not understand all the bad reviews it got. Well, I'll quantify that - I understand the bad reviews, but it makes me very sad. It makes me feel like people as a whole just don't "get" the message and that is rather fitting with the whole plot of the movie. Hrm.
JP bought me a pink Hello Kitty trash can and put two Cadbury Caramello bars inside. *wuv*

I am a fan of M. Night Shyamalan (or as we call him M. Night Shama-lama-ding-dong). It's not that I love scary, wtf! movies - I actually don't care for them. But all of his movies affect me the same way: they grab me by the throat. Literally. There are always moments in each story that make my throat tighten and tears fall. Because of the emotional effect they have on me, I am very forgiving of plot holes, self-indulgent scenes, etc. As a writer and director, he draws me in and makes me part of the movie experience. When his characters are scared, I am too. When they are sad, I weep. When they believe, I do too.
I think part of the problem is that the studios don't know how to market Shyamalan's films. Based on trailers, I didn't get psyched about any of his movies. I didn't see Unbreakable until JP rented it. I was astounded that it wasn't a box office smash and disappointed because the plot wasn't continued in a sequel. It was my favorite movie of his until today. Lady in the Water was fantastic - maybe not his usual storyline or style, but a wonderful fairy tale that can pull you in as easily as his other movies if you let it. Go see it. But don't expect a horror thriller. It's so, so much better than that.

You have to give him credit for making fun of himself AND critics though.

I love that he can make fun of himself and critics - the mark of true talent. *grin*
Hurray!

It's my third-grade level of education. *snicker* I loved your review and the info about Indian culture. Had no idea...but you hit the nail on the head. I think I have a little crush on M. Night. Hee!
