melcreada: (dfc and nft xmas)
Okay.

Whoever (my sister) told me that the birthing scene from Breaking Dawn was "not that bad" LIED TO ME. Ugh, why do I continue watching these movies...

Ew.

Last night we went to my company's Christmas party. It was nice, as usual. Huey Lewis and the News sounded great, but they didn't sing Stuck With You. Boo! Otherwise, very nice. Huey Lewis looks exactly the same as he did in the 80s. That's the power of love!!! LOL...

Paul and I went to my parent's house to help mom decorate her tree. My older brother showed up for a bit, energetic and happy (so awesome to see), and for half an hour there was a lot of laughter and reminiscing. Also, my dad was roasting a turkey (just because) and he cut it up and gave us all some delicious meat to take home.

I decided not to apply for the manager positions. I hope I am making the right decision.

melcreada: (christmas berries)

I have been lying in bed for over an hour and it is glorious!

I do have to get up and be productive, as tonight is my company Christmas party and, like any true glutton for punishment, I am going. It isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination: free food and music by once-great-bands that have fallen by the wayside (Styx and Lone Star this year, woo!). But I am still "at work." Absolutely no drinking and super-proper behavior expected. It's a little stressful, even though the party itself is humongous and I will probably know six or seven people in the whole arena.

The good news is I am feeling a little more chipper, possibly because I have a little extra money for the holidays. Thank goodness!

I forgot to mention that we went to see Monte Montgomery last weekend in San Marcos; thanks to [livejournal.com profile] annearchy  for introducing me to his music! He was fantastic. The best guitarist I've ever seen. And he gets all my love and a cookie for telling people to take a break from smoking (seriously, the smoke was THICK) and schooling the college brats in the front row who were chain smoking and resting their stocking feet on the stage. Ugh.

I also didn't realize that Monte plays fairly regularly in Austin (where they have banned smoking) so that is yet another reason to go and visit Nay-nay. Also, [livejournal.com profile] annearchy , be proud: I am already in the process of converting two Stevie Ray Vaughn fans into Monte fans. Heh, heh.

Also, I finished the second Twilight book and I liked it better than the first one! I'm not sure why, but Bella finally captured by attention and sympathy because getting your heart broken as a teenager is just how Stephanie Meyer writes it: melodramatic and overblown and painful and the worst you have probably ever felt. Plus, with Edward not around for a huge chunk of the book, she's not talking about his dulcet tones, crooked smile, or perfect beauty for awhile. LOL! Also, I love the Volturi and would like to hear more about them...

Wanna go wanna go wanna go!
Weiland and Cook at the same venue? On New Years Eve? In Las Vegas? *cries*

Okay, am seriously getting up now.

melcreada: (cake full of woe)

Work tomorrow. Ugh.

I cannot believe my vacation went by so fast - I didn't do anything but shop and go to the movies!

I saw Twilight twice (having finished the book, I am going to stick by my original affirmation that the movie is better than the novel; the writing, while in some instances very romantic, is just a little too schmaltzy for me...but then again I think Nicholas Sparks is overrated too, and most people love him). I am still totally reading the other books, though!

We also saw Bolt (and yes, I cried through most of it), Madagascar 2 (cute), and Quantum of Solace (if someone could provide me a diagram of what the hell was going on, it would be much appreciated).

In other news, not only did I forget to read my gas meter (my bitch-ass gas company charges you to come out and read the meter if you don't do it yourself), I also forgot to pay my cell phone and gas bills in a timely manner. Like, I just forgot. It was weird and also, you know, EPIC FAIL. Late fees suck.

I know work is going to be horrific this week as we are going live with software upgrades and I'm sure they will go as smoothly as all our other software upgrades, which is to say EPIC FAIL 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Okay, I'm off to go listen to the Twilight soundtrack. LOL! No, really.

melcreada: (twilight - westside story much?)

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it! I was trying to watch the Macy's Day Parade but I was dying of boredom so I stopped.

ETA: Apparently I missed the part where the Macy's Day Parade got rickrolled. *sigh*

JP and I are also making a list of places to visit tomorrow to get our Black Friday on. I am not making any big purchases, so I am kinda eh about the whole thing. Oh, well. Won't it be fun to wrestle with people in the middle of the night over parking spaces and the last pair of lounge pants in the sale bins at Old Navy? No? Okay.

Oh, yeah - the real reason for this post. I have been reading Twilight and I have a question that is driving me insane. I tried reading discussion boards, but all I got was a face full of spoilers not pertaining to my questions.

Cut just in care it's a spoiler... )

In non-spoilery Twilight thoughts: I am enjoying the book although it makes me giggle a little bit. It's very much a romance novel without the sex. I can dig it - like I said the story idea really appeals to me. But if she mentions the words "butterscotch," "Adonis," or "incandescent" one more time, I am going to lose it. I am definitely not above it, though - I kid because I love. The weird part is...I think I prefer the movie to the book. Crazy!

Also, I am rolling my eyes at schools trying to ban the Twilight books. Yes, there are many aspects of the main relationship that are unhealthy. But if that is the reason, then you need to yank Wuthering Heights (my personal favorite dysfunctional relationship novel) off the curriculum as well. Hell, wipe out Hemingway, Hardy, and any number of old school American male authors who make their female characters into unrealistic cariacatures of virginal purity or slutty slutty whores.

It's like I've always said: if you are a teenage girl and use fiction as a relationship guide? You have bigger troubles than the ideas Twilight is going to give you.

ANYWAY. I'm going to stop now because I didn't mean to get sidetracked.

Off to go make candied yams for Thanksgiving at my sisters. Later, ya'll!!!
