Well, my anger has abated and I forgot half the stuff I wanted to bitch about in my last entry, so I guess I'll forget about that post. For now.

Although my birthday is not until tomorrow, I have been celebrating the Hell out of it all weekend long:

- Thursday night the familia took me out to eat (celebrating all the December birthdays/anniversaries) followed by cake and presents at my parent's house.

- Afterwards, JP took me to the midnight showing of Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows, which was entirely awesome (although I still like the first better). I mean, I enjoy hoyay! as much as the next gal, but it felt a little over the top/anvil-y for my taste. But all in all, a great movie. Can't wait to see it again!

- Friday I headed out of town to see Nay-nay in Austin. That night we went downtown to see Esther's Follies, an Austin institution. It's a part skit, part singing, part magic show that is lightning quick with the jokes and costume changes. Truly unique and hilarious! Afterwards, we wandered down 6th Street looking into all the bars, tattoo parlors, and fancy hotels. We stopped for couple of drinks at an Irish pub, which was the only semi-quiet place on the street (for us old folks) and finally went back to Nay-nay's house.

- Saturday we did some shopping and found ourselves back in downtown Austin, looking at the window displays that are part of the Holiday Window Walk. Students from the local college put displays in tony stores and people get to vote on them. My favorite was the ball gown made from wrapping paper. That was some serious Project Runway shit!

- Afterwards, we went to Romeo's for some awesome Italian food (the bruschetta was to die for, with roasted garlic, olive tapenade, and fresh tomatoes). There was also a band playing bluegrass music. I don't know why they were playing in an Italian restaurant, but they sounded good.

- We then found our way to Pioneer Farms to see an interactive performance of A Christmas Carol. The farm is a living history museum run by volunteers. For the show, they walk small groups around the farm to different tableaux where actors perform to you, as if the audience was Scrooge. It was simple, yet effective.

- We ended the night with a few drinks and fell into bed, exhausted. I didn't drink too much this weekend, mainly because the last time I was at her place, I drank a whole bottle of Rose Regale and nearly puked it up on her carpet. Huzzah for tolerance!

- Today, we woke up late, went for mani/pedis (my toes are glittery red), and I drove home. I can't wait to collapse into bed!

I haven't been commenting on a lot of posts and for that, I FAIL. I am thinking of you guys and I am reading, just so you knows...

We went to the company Christmas party, which was nice. REO Speedwagon had lots of energy and got the crowd all revved up. Saw a handful of people we knew, ate too much, and listened to a couple of the band's big hits, and beat it out of there. With the exception of my poor feet (high-heeled boots for the lose!) it was a successful evening!

Earlier today I went to the Kona Grill with the girls for sashimi, sake, and gossip. It was an educational lunch as well since I learned what a McDonald's McGangBang was.

...

Oh, yeah - meme time!

Day 02 → Your favorite movie

I went back on forth on this, but in the end I have to go with Whisper of the Heart. It's funny and poignant and painful, just like middle school. I can see myself in Shizuku at that age and I wish I had met a nice, handsome boy who made violins. Bonus that one of the main plot points revolve around John Denver's Country Roads, one of my favorite songs ever. It's a movie I never get tired of and it makes me nostalgic and wistful as well as happy and hopeful. I will say this movie beat out Fellowship of the Rings by a very, very thin margin...

Had fun with the girls last night, although either they are wussies or I am an alcoholic. Jury is still out on that one. We went to Chacho's and had margaritas and a pizza-pan of nachos (so good, OMG!). It was karaoke night and that in and of itself was pretty damn hilarious. There was one little Mexican thug who kept getting up to sing (if you can call it that) and dance to Lil Wayne songs. Hee!

I worked a little this afternoon and it was nice to actually get a project done with absolutely no interruptions. *sigh*

And, no matter what your beliefs on the matter, the fact that a person who claims to be pro-life walked into a church and killed Dr. Tiller (late term abortion doctor) is both ironic and tragic. The whole issue makes me so sad.

Exhausted!

All day Friday was spent in the company of my mother and sister, shopping for crap for my cousin's bridal shower and wedding. Around hour 4, I was starting to get irritated, but thankfully my mom and sister decided they had everything they needed except for the arras (couldn't find them), which shocked me because HELLO! We are in the Mexican-iest town in the U.S. Well, except Laredo, and frankly, with all the border violence, I'm not too pumped about visiting down there anymore.

Then yesterday was my last minute gift shopping, afternoon wedding at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens (lovely, even though not a lot was blooming except in the conservatory), hilarious minister that sounded like a cross between a Shakespearean actor and a TV Evangelist, dinner #1 at the Spaghetti Warehouse (good but slowest service EVER), wedding cake, and then a mad dash across town to my next party. I'm like the wind, baby!

At the Kona Grill, I sampled sashimi (fantastic), some nigiri sushi (adequate), and sparkling sake (tastes like a flavorless champagne - I loved it). Then we went back to the birthday girl's house for ice cream and cake (she is an admitted Narutard and had a picture of Neji screened on the cake...LOL). Then we sat around, gabbing while I tried not to die from all the crap I had eaten.

Came home around 10pm, returned a couple of phone calls, and fell into a deep and blissful unconsciousness.

The end.

Today's high is going to be 91 degrees. Dammit, that means I am going to have to shave.

...

My friend told me two days ago that she is getting married this Saturday. So, I have the wedding and the dinner before rushing off to my second event, my other friend's birthday party (at Kona Grill, YUMMY). I do love squishing my fun together in one bite-sized nugget. *is already tired*

Here, have a random meme! )

Forgot to post!

Happiness meme, day five (and a half)

- I had the BEST fish tacos today for lunch and afterwards, I took my mom to the flea market and they had a pachanga going on, with a dance floor and a DJ in the far corner and old couples and workers and kids all dancing the cumbia to Mexican music. It was ghetto FABULOUS!

Well, I'll say this about Bush: he's got good reflexes. Way to duck those shoes of mass destruction!

Yikes! Homeowners Association fees are due! It's always something and that's no lie. But the good news is all the bills are paid for the month and almost all my Christmas shopping is done (only three presents left to buy online and a few cards/gifts to mail and I am DUNZO). Not too shabby because I am usually sending stuff out on the 20th. Perhaps this year I will beat that date!

If you haven't signed up and want one of my uber-cute kitty Christmas cards (and really, who wouldn't?), just leave your address here. OF COURSE there is still time - it'll take me a couple of days to gather my nerve to enter the Hell that is the post office in December.

Only four more days of work and then I'm off for a week! *happy dance* And what makes this news even better? My boss will be out three of those four days! *happy breakdance*

So, the party last night was interesting. I have no idea what they did with the original lead singer to Lonestar, but they were still pretty good. Styx wasn't bad either, but they did not play Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto, so they are dead to me. Heh, a couple of those guys looked like the living dead if I am being honest...

For some reason, I started watching Fushigi Yugi again this weekend and am enjoying it, even though it is so very...MIAKA! TAMAHOME! Hee! Watase Yu is love...

So...yeah...Christmas. Woo! Maybe we will set up our tree tomorrow. ^^;;

melcreada: (christmas berries)

I have been lying in bed for over an hour and it is glorious!

I do have to get up and be productive, as tonight is my company Christmas party and, like any true glutton for punishment, I am going. It isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination: free food and music by once-great-bands that have fallen by the wayside (Styx and Lone Star this year, woo!). But I am still "at work." Absolutely no drinking and super-proper behavior expected. It's a little stressful, even though the party itself is humongous and I will probably know six or seven people in the whole arena.

The good news is I am feeling a little more chipper, possibly because I have a little extra money for the holidays. Thank goodness!

I forgot to mention that we went to see Monte Montgomery last weekend in San Marcos; thanks to [livejournal.com profile] annearchy  for introducing me to his music! He was fantastic. The best guitarist I've ever seen. And he gets all my love and a cookie for telling people to take a break from smoking (seriously, the smoke was THICK) and schooling the college brats in the front row who were chain smoking and resting their stocking feet on the stage. Ugh.

I also didn't realize that Monte plays fairly regularly in Austin (where they have banned smoking) so that is yet another reason to go and visit Nay-nay. Also, [livejournal.com profile] annearchy , be proud: I am already in the process of converting two Stevie Ray Vaughn fans into Monte fans. Heh, heh.

Also, I finished the second Twilight book and I liked it better than the first one! I'm not sure why, but Bella finally captured by attention and sympathy because getting your heart broken as a teenager is just how Stephanie Meyer writes it: melodramatic and overblown and painful and the worst you have probably ever felt. Plus, with Edward not around for a huge chunk of the book, she's not talking about his dulcet tones, crooked smile, or perfect beauty for awhile. LOL! Also, I love the Volturi and would like to hear more about them...

Wanna go wanna go wanna go!
Weiland and Cook at the same venue? On New Years Eve? In Las Vegas? *cries*

Okay, am seriously getting up now.

melcreada: (kissing is awesome!)

Even when you are not supposed to be doing it. Heh. There were sales to be had and there was much (not really) partaking of them. I bought a white denim skirt for $15 and a sweet, military-style jacket for $10 (hurray for out of season shopping!). I also picked up these headphones that I have been wanting for like the past 6 months because they finally went on clearance.

I've felt like poo since yesterday but tonight, being the sensible person wot I am, I am going out anyway! My saving grace is the girl I am going with has to be at work at 5 a.m., so we will make it an early night.

I don't know what's wrong with me, but if I was a betting woman I would bet a gajillion dollars it has to do with my wonky reactions to allergens in the air. Note to Mother Nature: IT IS WINTER. CUT THAT SHIT OUT. I am tired of the samba band playing in my head. *snuffles*

Also of note: putting on mid-calf suede boots that have no zippers is special torture!!!  I yank and I step and poke myself in the ass with a shoe horn and at the end of it all, I am looking smashing, sweating and in my boxer shorts with some sweet, sweet boots on.

I need aspirin.

Yay, partay!

Why is it I have such elaborate, freaky dreams after I have been drinking? And why do I remember them at all? Last night, Roberta and I went bar hopping and ended up downtown. Which is a great place to be on a Saturday night, when it is cool but not cold and you are almost tipsy but not quite  and music and people are spilling out onto the street  from all the clubs and bars and restaurants and the noise is both pleasant and comforting.

Afterwards, I came home and fell into yet another funky dream. We were in the future, in a very sterile, surgical environment. Very clean and empty. The government in power was a dictatorship and they controlled everything and everyone down to the way we dressed and behaved. The most common form of punishment for minor infractions was the cutting off of one or both hands, depending on what you actually did. So, although I didn't see too many other people in my dream, I can imagine almost everyone...didn't have hands.

The dream kicks into high gear when the secret police appear at my door to take me in for some sort of minor violation. Before leaving the house, they tell me to remove my rings, watch, and bracelet. Chilling. After that, the dream degenerates into a meandering maze of me trying to talk my way out of the punishment in the police offices. Scary and somewhat silly. I mean what the Hell does this society do with so many citizens running around without hands?

*cough*

I think I will take a nice, long bath today - Big Blue or Karma? Hmmm.
