Ever since I found out that Arizona doesn't observe Daylight Savings, I have been pea-green with envy. In a country obsessed with time, Arizona is Timex Switzerland. And what the Hell...springing forward this early in the year is unnatural! Would any of this have been neccesary if we had just stuck with the Mayan calendar?

Feel free to disabuse me of my notions...half the time I don't know what I'm spluttering on about, anyway. *grin*

Okay, now for the big news: I am going to Japan in May so I can visit the awesome Arwen and also fulfill a longtime dream. I can't wait! I am simultaneously thrilled and terrified. I am also an idiot because I booked the majority of my trip during a time when the Ghibli Museum will be closed. Yeesh. But as JP put it, there's always next year. And the idea that I would make this a yearly vacation fills me with much *squee*.

But I am getting ahead of myself. I know some of you are veterans of Japan travel, so if ya'll have any helpful hints, I would love to hear 'em. I am currently studying a couple of guides and poring over atlases and train schedules. Also, I have "Where is the bathroom?" and "How much is it?/I'll take it!" down. Well, it's a start, anyway.

In local news, two of the other supervisors are on vacay this week, so in addition to the HELL that is software upgrades, I will be covering their stuff, too. Hello, fourth week in a row where I hit or surpass 50 hours!

Also - I am happy that we received rain, but that meant scrapping plans to go to the outlet mall in San Marcos today. Pooh.

Aaaand, I don't know if I mentioned it or not, but the antenna snapped off my Jeep last week, so now I get two stations on my radio: a popular rock one and the classical station. Who knew they had such a strong signal? Anyhoo, I've been listening to a lot of classical music, feeling all pleased with myself because I can correctly identify like 30% of the music they play. It reminds me of how, as a child, I used to incessantly listen to my dad's record (RECORD!!!) collection of classical composers and make up little stories to go with each piece. Told you I was strange. Time Life Famous Classical Composers and Michael Jackson's Thriller would pretty much sum up the musical stylings of Melissa, circa 1983.

Okay, I'll shut up now.

My eyes are barely open, for serious.

So, the three minute update? Here goes:

Family: the Kid is in town for a visit, so that means late nights and lots of beer and laughter. Family in and out of the house and just wonderfulness in general. Tonight, he and I went to dinner at a hole-in-the-wall Japanese restaurant. We had the BEST time, sitting at the sushi bar and cracking up with  the sushi chef, who had aspirations of being a comedian. Mmm, so happy that I feel full. Just brimming with the warmth of it.

Work: I clocked 53 hours last week and we just started testing. Like less than ten percent of our volume. We go live tomorrow and I will be in the office at 4 a.m. to make sure everything kicks off okay. Hold me. I mean it.

JP has been a cleaning maniac lately. He shames me. The house smells lovely and we can walk through the rooms without tripping over stuffs. The empty sink alone is reason to rejoice. Thank you, honey.

Okay, enough with the sap. I have eaten something like 12 pieces of sushi and washed them down with two large bottles of Kirin Ichiban. I need sleep.

Very long week consisting of me playing catch up at work while trying to kick out all the additional projects dumped on me at the last minute. Is it possible to be insanely busy and deathly bored at the same time?

I still need to cull cruise pictures, but today was spent rearranging my closet (almost done, go me!) and shopping. Mmmm, shopping. I swear to God I am going to find some nice, matching nightstands that not only fit with my decor but are also $50 or less. I am determined.

I did my tax refund last night. I hope it is correct because it's a lot larger than last year. Not that I'm complaining, but for some reason, I have always been terrified of the IRS.

In other news, my boy Elliott Yamin has a record deal. Huzzah! Even more disturbing - I am loving the long, curly locks. Help!

Off to enjoy the delights of chocolate hazelnut tea and Super Gals 2. ^______^

I have been back to work two days and it feels like two weeks. Bah.

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. Mine was quite good. I received lots of gift certificates and goodies, including the Sex in the City boxset. Woo! True to my promise, I spent Christmas day in my pajamas, watching my new DVDs and FMP. Sagura learning to pose as Mizuki's lecherous boyfriend is still so very much with the awesome. In English, Chris Patton's deadpan just fits the character so perfectly. Yay for slothy-good times!

Many thanks to [personal profile] whitereflection for the lovely card and note. *snuggles you*

In random news, I am thinking about changing my LJ name to something a little simpler, a little easier to pronounce, and a little more me, circa present time. I am also tired of being called "Jose." LOL! We'll see - you know how long it takes for me to decide on anything.

Yoinked because it is so perfect:

Elementary, my dear Joseishijin.

My hands and feet are *freezing* Oh, this crazy San Antonio weather!

I spent most of yesterday (and a good chunk of last night) on my hands and knees, with a toolbox, trying to fix two of our larger machines. I was racking my brains because I couldn't remember half of what I used to do to fix these suckers and I had an irrational fear that I was going to electrocute myself. Ya gotta love vendors who don't work Sundays like us poor slobs.

I am thoroughly in "funkdom." Not full-on depressed but not content. Something's brewing. I guess I will just ride it out and see where it takes me. Maybe at least I'll get some good "wah, wah, wah" poetry out of it this time. But I wouldn't count on it. ^_~

Random thought for the day: why doesn't live journal have moods like "malcontent" or "war-mongering"? I'd like to see the little kitty icons for those...
