We went to see Twelfth Night at the annual Shakespeare in the Park on Friday night. The Magik Theater always set the Bard's plays in different times. This one had a Beach Blanket Bingo facade, complete with brightly colored bathhouses, a live band playing 50s beach music, and Fabian doing his best Keanu Reeves surfer impersonation. Not bad, but missing something. The weather, however, was lovely and the white wine sangria, lip-smacking good.

I bought the most enormous white and gold floppy straw hat yesterday. It is both ridiculous AND glorious. So far, my plan to start saving extra money is not going so well. Today will be better. *nods*

Speaking of spending money, though, I am thinking about asking for a kindle for my birthday. My inner librarian has been steadfastly against it, but I realize that I just don't have the room for all my damn books plus packing three or four hardbacks every time I go on vacation is getting hard on the old carcass (dragging my carry on across San Fran, on the BART, and through the airport convinced me). I may have to keep some books for nostalgic purposes and because I love the way they smell...but I just feel like I'm ready to take the next step. *excite*

Ugh. I want a cupcake so bad right now, but all my milk is spoiled and I'd rather be hogtied to an anthill than go to the grocery store on a Sunday afternoon. Maybe later...

Love for big floppy hats. I just wish some had a discreet tie on them, like the hats I wear for sun protection. It'd be nice to go outside without worrying about the wind blowing my hat off and without looking 'weird' like I do with the hiking gear.

I've been contemplating an eReader for space considerations too, especially now that I get the sense they are "read in bed"-able. It will probably happen but there are a lot of upgrades and gadgets I need to pick up during the summer.

So much YES about having a tie so the hat does not blow off your head! Heh, I love hiking gear, but some of those hats do seem to imply that you have wandered away from your infantry. ^___^

I feel kind of silly because when the kindle first came out, it seemed like everyone wanted to buy me one and I was all, "No, no, no...purity of the page!" Just yammering on about how much I loved physical books. But I can't deny the practicality of holding 3000 of my favorite books in one hand. LOL...

When they first came out, I wasn't too impressed with the tiny screen and the delay. Now there's more options/variety. Of course, that means picking an eReader (or possibly a tablet with the same function) that much harder.

I wish translated manga would come out for it. It would save me so much space since I burn through those so fast. Also, never having the issue with keeping the book open/readable at the very beginning or very ending seems nice.

Yes! Manga would be so nice...

I was actually disappointed that several books I was interested in getting do not come in kindle format. Boo! My fault for liking old crime novels, LOL!

I received a Kindle for xmas last year. It is quite nice and handy. I am a lover of the tactile book experience as well, but the electronic variety are much more practical for traveling, etc. Getting an e-reader does not mean you won't buy paper books again. I have purchased a few real books since the Kindle. Think of an e-reader as a convenience device, not a replacement. Kind of like how an iPod was a means to carry around your music, but your true collection is at home (on cd, vinyl, hard drive, etc).

Plus I play Scrabble on my Kindle alllllllllll the time. :)

Very true. I have pretty much decided that I am going to get one (LOL!) - I just don't know if I will be able to wait for my birthday (instant gratification for the win!!!)
